The Last Anvil Makers by Nathan Green
This beautiful painting was commissioned by Richard Postman for the fronticepiece of Anvils in America.
Later it was used on the slip cover.
The painting taken from two photographs shows workers operating a steam hammer to forge an anvil using using the open die or blacksmith method of hammer forging.
The people in the painting are Carl M. Wright and his father Mr. Arthur J. (Sy) Wright, anvil makers for the Columbus Forge and Iron Company.
The steam hammer and the man operating it who is unidentified are from the Columbus Anvil Forging Company, makers of the
Arm and Hammer anvil.
